[00:00:09] Hannah, thank you for joining me today on Pop Culture Unplugged.

[00:00:12] Thank you for having me.

[00:00:14] Congrats! Season 4 just got announced about a day or two.

[00:00:17] I know! I wasn't... I didn't know when to... I knew we were probably going back but I didn't know when to expect it. It was really exciting.

[00:00:24] How's it feel? At least another season.

[00:00:27] I'm really happy to go back. I miss all my people very dearly.

[00:00:32] When did Season 3 end filming? About over a year now, right?

[00:00:36] No, we finished filming Season 3 in May.

[00:00:38] Oh wow!

[00:00:39] Yeah, so like six months.

[00:00:41] So hopefully now spring you'll probably go on there again? Have they said anything to you yet?

[00:00:45] I don't know when. Hopefully like soon but I don't know exactly what's yet.

[00:00:50] It's been an interesting season this season huh? What's your thoughts on it? The fans have been going crazy for Season 3.

[00:00:55] I know! They've been going absolutely crazy and I love to see it because we've been trying to make the seasons bigger and better every season.

[00:01:03] So getting bigger and better reactions every season is like exactly what we want.

[00:01:08] Especially with Julie. You know, she's faced like an incredible growth throughout the seasons and this season too.

[00:01:12] You know, like she's going through some like emotional turmoil I would say for Season 3. What's your thoughts on that?

[00:01:18] Yeah, this season for Julie has been a lot.

[00:01:22] But this season I really got to discover more backstory to Julie and more layers to her which is awesome.

[00:01:28] And I love having those added complexities there.

[00:01:31] But definitely getting the backstory of what happened with Julie before they came into town with Thomas and with her dad.

[00:01:37] And that was what the fight was about in episode 2.

[00:01:40] I think that added a lot for me to play with because she's not only dealing with like the current trauma but the past trauma even before she got to the town.

[00:01:49] So that was just great for me to play around with this season.

[00:01:52] Have you been able to like go back and forth with the creators or the writers about the character?

[00:01:57] Like, have you been able to add any input to her or like, just you know, like collab with them pretty much about this character?

[00:02:05] Not really. I don't really feel like I need to do too much of the character.

[00:02:10] I feel like they, our creators have such like well-versed characters and if I go in there and say, well actually you do this.

[00:02:17] I'm just like, shut up. Like, they know what they're doing.

[00:02:22] It's like, who cares what I think?

[00:02:23] I think the only thing I've ever really talked about is maybe just like certain scenes and like dialogue just changes.

[00:02:29] But that's it. I'm not going to go and tell them like how my character should be.

[00:02:32] Right, right. You know, in season three also I've noticed, you know, like you've had like a lot of experiences, you know, with like the hallucination scenes and like the dungeon ruins, you know, like how did you prepare to play those intense scenes this year?

[00:02:47] It was, it was a lot. It was a lot and it was all outside, which meant it was also very cold.

[00:02:53] Um, so there were just a lot of added challenges this season while filming, but I think it was almost better because you can never really prepare.

[00:03:02] Like seriously with this web event we had this, this last winter while we were filming, you couldn't really prepare for how a day was going to go.

[00:03:09] You could do a scene and it could just be, they would be like 90 kilometer winds, like gusts of winds.

[00:03:15] And they're just like, we're filming, be very careful on set.

[00:03:19] So it's like, okay, now we're filming a scene and my hair is like this the entire time.

[00:03:23] So it's like that kind of adds to like, okay, and I also have to stay in character and still deliver.

[00:03:29] So there were lots of challenges, but, but the season I think turned out great.

[00:03:32] So I don't think that you could really tell.

[00:03:35] How do you think Julie connects with all these mysteries that are happening also?

[00:03:39] I feel like it has something to do with Julie, Randall, Mariel.

[00:03:45] Like my theory is that the three of them now, because of what they went through, have some kind of connection to this place.

[00:03:51] Obviously we know Julie hears the screaming and Randall sees the cicadas and Mariel, you don't know.

[00:03:57] I think she's very much more private about what she's going through, but I think there's some kind of connection there, the town.

[00:04:04] So I don't know. I hope.

[00:04:07] What about the newest thing this year? We saw a little time travel. What's your thoughts on that?

[00:04:11] Yeah. I mean, I don't even know if it's time travel. Like it's just something, something to do with some kind of like,

[00:04:20] it's so time travel, anything like that always just confuses me.

[00:04:24] But I think that from will not chalk it up as easily. It's just, oh, it's time travel. It's there's something more to it.

[00:04:30] One of the biggest symbols, I think I throughout the season, the music box.

[00:04:37] How do you think it influences the changes like with Julie's like mental state and decision this season with this music box?

[00:04:44] Yeah, I don't know. I haven't even had a thought about that. The music box from season two.

[00:04:48] Cool. In this episode, I'm allowed to talk about episode 10. Is this coming out?

[00:04:54] Yeah. I'll release it. I'll release it tomorrow.

[00:04:56] Perfect. Okay. Because obviously we know that Jade was trying to find how it fit with the numbers from the bottles within music notes.

[00:05:06] And he found the scale that you could then play on the violin. So I feel like music is obviously a very big part of the show,

[00:05:13] the music box, the ballerina, and now with Jade, the violin and playing the music.

[00:05:18] So there's got to be some kind of kind of connection there. I just don't know what it is.

[00:05:23] The monsters too, they seem to like even they're growing more or they're like, they're more like sinister this season. Right?

[00:05:29] Yeah. I mean, we saw Smiley running to go kill Miranda. So they don't do that. I don't know.

[00:05:37] We're seeing some new, some new layers of the monsters as well.

[00:05:41] Speaking of Smiley, how are the fans? The fans are loving that character, huh?

[00:05:44] They just love it. They eat it up. And I love it. That's like every actor's dream is to play a character.

[00:05:49] And then even if the character dies, something just that the fans love you so much that they're like, we got it from this guy.

[00:05:56] We got it. We got to include this guy as much as we can. Like, that's like the goal. And I'm so happy for him.

[00:06:00] Yeah. You mentioned earlier about Randall too. How would you describe that?

[00:06:04] Like there's like newer layers of like the Julie and Randall relationship, the journey.

[00:06:09] How would you describe that journey?

[00:06:10] Well, I think they're obviously very trauma bonded with what they both went through when they were in Martin's chamber there and they were chained to the wall and screaming.

[00:06:20] I think that really connects you to a person. So I really love the dynamic between Julie and Randall.

[00:06:24] I think we finally see maybe a little bit of a soft spot in Randall, which is great to see.

[00:06:29] And Julie, it's just Julie, just constantly looking for belonging and constantly looking for that connection that she sometimes she feels like she can't get with her own family.

[00:06:39] So I like the dynamic between Julie and Randall.

[00:06:42] Hmm.

[00:06:43] How would you say like the last three seasons now?

[00:06:45] How would you describe like the relationship with Julie and her family now?

[00:06:48] Because they had their ups and downs too.

[00:06:50] They did. The thing about the Matthews family is that it's constantly changing if they're like working together or they're fighting again.

[00:06:58] Like, it's never going to be as easy as just like, like in season one, they came to the town, they were fighting on the brink of divorce.

[00:07:05] And then they came back together. And all of a sudden it was like, hey, we're back almost.

[00:07:10] It's like we're healing from this place. But then, no, this place is also still terrible.

[00:07:14] It's still pulling everyone apart and creating clashes there.

[00:07:17] So I think it's exhausting.

[00:07:20] I think for Julie, it's exhausting being around just constant turmoil in the family, just constant, like, we're fine.

[00:07:26] And then we're not. And then we're happy. And then we're fighting again.

[00:07:29] It's like, it's just never ending. And it's always leading back to Julie. Can you go care for Ethan while we have our fights?

[00:07:35] And it's I think it's just it's too much on Julie. So that's why she searches for other people to find connection with.

[00:07:41] I can definitely see that. We noticed a season two. We see some new characters.

[00:07:45] Has there been like a favorite character that you had scenes with?

[00:07:49] This season of character. I mean, we have a cost of the season.

[00:07:53] I had no scenes with with Samantha, but I got to see her work, obviously, in the show.

[00:07:58] And she did a frickin bang up job.

[00:08:01] I like controversial. I like the Acosta character.

[00:08:05] So I think that's been a great addition to the show. And I think my hope is that maybe there's something there with Kenny, too.

[00:08:11] I see a lot of people shipping them and I kind of want that, too.

[00:08:14] You think Julie likes the dungeon this season?

[00:08:17] Does she like the dungeon?

[00:08:18] Yeah.

[00:08:19] I don't know. It just keeps pulling her back. So I think the dungeon likes her.

[00:08:23] Yeah.

[00:08:23] What do you think was like the experiences like to reveal about the larger mystery in town this season with that with the dungeon?

[00:08:31] Yeah, I think it was. I mean, reading those scripts was just getting a lot. Every episode you get, you're like, oh, my God, this is crazy.

[00:08:37] But I think the last eight episodes, like each of those scripts, it was like, okay, my mind is actually frickin blown what is going on here.

[00:08:45] Because so much of what's getting revealed, especially when I found out that I was the one who through Boyd the Rope, like that mystery there.

[00:08:52] I was just frickin, I was shook. It was crazy.

[00:08:56] Definitely.

[00:08:57] We also see like, you know, throughout this, this season, Julie, she feels like she's become more stronger.

[00:09:02] Would you say by the end of the season?

[00:09:03] Yeah, totally.

[00:09:06] What do you think made her like this to get like that by the end of the season?

[00:09:12] I think that Julie has had to grow up really fast in this place.

[00:09:17] And I think that just going through what she's gone through is very absurd for a girl as young as she is.

[00:09:26] And I think that just being in this place is just going to age you rapidly.

[00:09:31] Like, look at little Ethan, you know, he's now talking about very mature themes about like, when they find her bones, or what do we do like this place really?

[00:09:44] It ages you really fast.

[00:09:46] And it's really sad.

[00:09:46] But I think it's also good for Julie because it does, it makes her thin skin get a little bit thicker.

[00:09:53] Yeah, definitely see that.

[00:09:54] What about like, you know, like this, the show's got a huge fan base after three seasons.

[00:09:59] What do you think is like the, have you heard of like some of the theories that the fans have come up with?

[00:10:04] Oh yeah, there's some big ones.

[00:10:06] Yeah.

[00:10:06] Have you had a favorite one that you've heard?

[00:10:08] My favorite right now is that Randall is Martin.

[00:10:13] And that that's why he recognized Julie when she, when she was in his chamber there.

[00:10:20] Which that is really cool.

[00:10:22] But then also at the same time, I'm like, well, just because he knew her name doesn't really mean anything because all the monsters know everyone's names.

[00:10:29] So it's like, but that's a cool one, I think.

[00:10:31] And then people are getting silly and they're like, Oh, Randall is Fatima.

[00:10:34] And people, people are really big with all those.

[00:10:38] So yeah, I think anybody that pours a lot of their time into the show and to make a theory.

[00:10:43] And I love it.

[00:10:45] It's funny because I was on Reddit earlier, just to read up on it.

[00:10:48] And some people think like, this is all a big dream.

[00:10:50] Somebody's going to wake up eventually.

[00:10:52] They were just dreaming this whole thing.

[00:10:54] I mean, Tabitha woke up in a hospital, but then she was right back.

[00:10:59] So I feel like unless you're dreaming inside of a dream and it's all very, very layered there.

[00:11:07] I don't know.

[00:11:08] Yeah.

[00:11:09] Without, you know, without giving away too many spoilers for like the last episode coming up and everything.

[00:11:13] Like, what do you hope for?

[00:11:15] Like next season?

[00:11:16] Like, what are you hoping for?

[00:11:17] We see more out of Julie.

[00:11:19] I mean, obviously, I hope we get to see more story walking business because that's really fun.

[00:11:25] And I'm really glad that I get to do that.

[00:11:27] If Jim is dead, then, because I don't know if that's actually a real thing that happened or not.

[00:11:37] I would then hope that obviously we get to see the aftermath of that for Julie, just because that would be so devastating, even though, you know, she has her moments with her father.

[00:11:47] It's still her dad at the end of the day.

[00:11:50] So yeah, I would love to play off of that too.

[00:11:53] What's your thoughts on that whole nickname, the Frommily?

[00:11:55] The Frommily is so awesome.

[00:11:57] I think that's so cute.

[00:11:59] And I love how, like, in touch with the fans, like our show is and all of our, our cast and all the people behind the scenes, like even the people that run the Instagram accounts, just like, it's just so cute how connected everybody is.

[00:12:13] Have you had an, uh, what was I going with this question about like the fans and everything?

[00:12:18] Uh, have you received like fan emails or mails or like even drawings of your character or stuff like that?

[00:12:24] Cause that's, they're pretty good out there.

[00:12:26] Some of the things they've created are, oh my goodness.

[00:12:28] I fan art is like my favorite thing to see.

[00:12:32] Like, I see a lot of more digital art, um, nowadays, and it's so cool.

[00:12:38] Like, I don't know.

[00:12:39] I see, I, they made like all the characters into like comic book.

[00:12:42] Um, yeah, but it was black and white.

[00:12:45] Like it was almost like, Oh, I don't know.

[00:12:46] I saw that.

[00:12:47] That was amazing.

[00:12:48] And also I love just seeing like edits.

[00:12:49] My favorite thing is on my Tik TOK.

[00:12:51] Like I'll just scroll and then I'll just like see myself and I'm like, Oh, hi.

[00:12:55] Or like, I'll just see like my friends just in an edit and I'm like, repost.

[00:12:59] Like, I just, I love seeing people being invested in the show.

[00:13:03] Yeah.

[00:13:03] How long before we see the Fromm family, uh, in comic cons, have you been invited to one of those yet?

[00:13:09] I mean, there was a, Fromm was at the San Diego comic con.

[00:13:13] I forget when I was not there, but there were, I think, Harold Perrineau, Elizabeth Saunders, David Alpeg, Catalina, Sandino Moreno and Ian Bailey.

[00:13:23] I believe were the five.

[00:13:24] I think so.

[00:13:26] I love Ian.

[00:13:27] He's one of the best.

[00:13:28] Yeah.

[00:13:28] He's so awesome.

[00:13:30] It's awesome.

[00:13:30] Hannah, last, last thing, uh, do you have a message for the family, for the Frommleys?

[00:13:36] My message to the Frommleys is keep, keep on keeping on and keep asking your questions and keep making your theories because no matter how outlandish they may seem, I eat them all up and I love them.

[00:13:49] And thank you.

[00:13:51] That's amazing.

[00:13:52] Hannah, I want to thank you for giving me a few minutes.

[00:13:53] Let's get you back on with season four.

[00:13:55] We continue this chat.

[00:13:56] I will be there.

[00:13:58] I will be there.

[00:13:58] I will be there.

[00:13:58] I will be there.
