[00:00:00] .

[00:00:10] Asher, thank you for joining me

[00:00:11] today on Pop Culture Unplugged.

[00:00:12] Thank you for having me.

[00:00:14] Exciting times with my friend.

[00:00:15] We have Lazarus coming out in

[00:00:17] tomorrow, right?

[00:00:18] Yes, sir.

[00:00:19] Tomorrow is the big day.

[00:00:20] That's the big day.

[00:00:21] I watched it.

[00:00:22] I actually watched it last night.

[00:00:23] I love the whole thriller and

[00:00:25] mystery that's going on.

[00:00:26] You know, at the same time,

[00:00:27] you got to pay close

[00:00:28] attention because there's some

[00:00:29] things that are giving away

[00:00:30] throughout the movie, which was

[00:00:31] great.

[00:00:32] What's your thoughts on all this?

[00:00:35] Let's start off with what are you hoping for the viewers get out of this film when they tune in?

[00:00:40] Let me just turn these lights on real dark.

[00:00:45] Okay, I think the viewers can expect a a you know I feel like now that we've all gone through that pandemic.

[00:00:57] I think the way we look at these movies are a lot differently.

[00:01:02] I think we look at them a lot differently now since we've experienced it and I think it shows that there's a lot of possibilities that you know there are a lot of viruses in the world.

[00:01:12] One can come back and I just love how this movie's message is so strong about family and fighting for your loved ones and overcoming adversity.

[00:01:22] Because I know some things, I mean Owen's problems end up following him to Lacerith and he ends up putting everyone else's lives in danger.

[00:01:31] And especially the girl he falls in love with so there's a lot of pieces and moving pieces and I can't wait for everyone to see it.

[00:01:40] It's thrilling, it's exciting, it's scary, it's creepy and then we all love Ashley Judd.

[00:01:46] It was nice to see you in a role also like it's a little more dark. We haven't seen you like these type of roles recently.

[00:01:53] Yeah, I mean that's why I was so intrigued by this project was because I haven't played a character like Owen before.

[00:02:01] It's very different from what I've played. It's very grown and mature and it's like my first real adult role in the industry.

[00:02:10] I'm not playing a kid anymore which was cool. So yeah very edgy and very different from anything I've played before and it was cool to have tattoos all over my face and get jacked as dope.

[00:02:23] How did you prepare it out to play a character like this considering like the unique setting and premise of this film?

[00:02:31] Can you repeat that one more time?

[00:02:36] How did you prepare to play this role of Owen considering like the unique setting and the premise of the film?

[00:02:42] It was kind of a challenge for me because I was trying to figure out, you know, Owen has the sense of vulnerability about him but he shows it in a different way.

[00:02:57] Because he's gone through a lot of trauma in his life, very similar to what the girls have gone through and I mean different but everyone goes through their experiences.

[00:03:06] And I think diving into his past just really helped me a lot creating that backstory for my character.

[00:03:12] Obviously we don't talk too much about his history but I've created a lot more in my head during filming besides just the stuff that we already know like his parents died and him being followed and chased by his old gang.

[00:03:26] That's trying to kill him. So yeah there was just a lot that went into this character and I just really wanted to bring that sense of vulnerability in life.

[00:03:36] We see a lot of like, you know, the theme is like isolation, survival, trust. What's your thoughts on all those three premises right there?

[00:03:44] I love it. I mean I've literally described our movie survival, trust, family.

[00:03:51] Yeah I mean pretty much thumbs up our movie but yeah it's just so interesting.

[00:03:56] I mean who wouldn't, like I always wanted to make movies that I've always wanted to make the movies that I watch right?

[00:04:03] And I'm like how do I make movies? I want to make movies like that.

[00:04:06] So I feel like this is totally a movie that I would watch with my friends and be super intrigued the entire time because these are the movies I love.

[00:04:13] So I think that's even cooler to make something that you're proud of and I'm just stoked to be here.

[00:04:23] I can't wait for the film to come out tomorrow. It's gonna be tomorrow already.

[00:04:28] So you mentioned Ashley Judd but the big question is, a lot of your scenes are with Sarah and Katie. How does it work with them too?

[00:04:35] Incredible. Katie is so fun and Sarah. They're both so talented. I came in two weeks later. They've already been filming.

[00:04:44] They opened, they had me come in. They opened their, I worked so hard right now.

[00:04:50] They had open arms for me. They welcomed me with open arms. It was great. We had fun and they're super easy to get along with and they're great actresses.

[00:05:02] You mentioned you were challenged for this film. What do you think it was like? We see you, a lot of scenes are in the house. A lot of scenes are in the woods.

[00:05:09] What do you think it was like for you, the most challenging part of this film?

[00:05:13] I think navigating the different time periods of Owen was kind of difficult I think and was a challenge because we don't shoot from the beginning of the movie all the way to the end of the movie.

[00:05:34] It's all over the place and it's scenes that are all throughout the movie. I think that was kind of difficult because I didn't have a lot of time to prep, not as much time as I would have liked.

[00:05:45] I was kind of worried but I got to dissect everything and I had a bunch of calls with Alec and we talked about it when I arrived.

[00:05:55] I ended up having enough time to find the character and bring that vulnerability and that trauma he's gone through into the story and the character.

[00:06:08] I don't want to give out spoilers but the way the movie ends at the end where you guys are at the table, what's your thoughts? Can you see a continuation down the road of this type of film?

[00:06:18] Yeah I think we left it with, there could be a continuation of the story. I don't think there's more to tell.

[00:06:27] There's a lot left to tell actually so I love that ending. There were actually a couple of alternate endings.

[00:06:34] Okay.

[00:06:35] So I'm glad that's the ending that they picked because I think it sent it off perfectly and still opens it out.

[00:06:42] It opens the door for Osword 2, maybe Osword 3.

[00:06:47] What are you hoping for the fans of the audience? What do you hope to remember most about your role as Owen?

[00:06:54] I just hope they remember, I think the relationship between Imogen and Owen is really special because before he meets her he's kind of just like this lost soul.

[00:07:09] He never really had any guidance. His old gang's trying to kill him, he has no family.

[00:07:14] He always asks himself and once he meets Imogen she kind of becomes that rock for him and he ends up seeing the world in a different view because of her and that's why he calls him other.

[00:07:27] Amazing.

[00:07:28] Asher, I want to thank you for giving me a few minutes today. This was great for the movie and good luck with the movie everything.

[00:07:33] Last question, can he tease anything about Shazam 3? Are we ever going to see what's going on with that?

[00:07:38] I know nothing.

[00:07:40] I know nothing. I would love to return to the franchise. It'd be amazing.

[00:07:47] Yeah, I guess we'll see what the future holds and it'd be pretty sick but I hope so.

[00:07:53] There you go. Asher, thank you for this was great. Hopefully we'll see you again in the future.

[00:07:58] Thank you likewise. Thanks for your time. Have a great day.

[00:08:01] You too.
