Actor Yuvi Hecht returns to Pop Culture Unplugged for a heartfelt conversation about his role as Young David in the moving new film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. Landing the Role of Young David
Yuvi revealed that the opportunity came through a self-tape audition, a process that challenged him to fully embody a younger version of Colin Farrell’s character.
“I remember getting ready for the audition, doing my hair and even curling my eyebrows to match Colin when he was younger,” Yuvi shared.
The dedication paid off, with his audition scenes ending up as actual moments in the final film.
Preparing for the Role
To step into David’s shoes, Yuvi immersed himself in Colin Farrell’s filmography:
“The first thing I did was start watching all of Colin’s movies and TV shows — studying his mannerisms, his voice, his dialect.”
He explained that much of the role came down to replicating the essence of Colin’s performance while bringing his own authenticity to the younger version of David.
Advice from Colin Farrell
Working alongside Farrell was both inspiring and grounding. Yuvi recalled one moment in particular:
“Colin told me, ‘You’re here for a reason. Just stay true to yourself and the character.’ That advice really calmed my nerves.”
This guidance allowed Yuvi to approach emotional scenes with confidence and presence.
The Emotional Impact of the Story
The heart of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey lies in its exploration of the past and the choices that shape who we become. Yuvi described one especially moving scene:
“There was a take where Colin started tearing up, and I felt everything the character was feeling. It was such a beautiful moment to experience as an actor.”
He added that the film is ultimately about loving yourself before you can love others, a theme he hopes resonates with audiences.
A Family Affair
Yuvi was able to share the premiere with his family, bringing them to New York for the film’s debut.
“My dad’s a businessman, so he’s never been around Hollywood. Watching him see actors he admires — that was really special.”
Their support continues to motivate him as his career evolves.

“I hope people sit in their seats when it’s over, smiling and thinking about their own lives, their own journeys.”
