Vincent Martella Talks Phineas and Ferb Revival, Fan Impact, and Returning to the Role of a Lifetime

It’s not a reboot — it’s a continuation. That’s how Vincent Martella, the voice of Phineas Flynn, describes the highly anticipated return of Phineas and Ferb. In an exclusive interview with Pop Culture Unplugged, Martella opened up about stepping back into the role, the emotional impact of the series, the fan base that kept it alive, and what’s in store for the iconic summer duo.

“It Feels Like We Never Left”

When news of the Phineas and Ferb revival broke, Martella didn’t find out from the studio — he found out the same way many fans did: online.

“I literally found out on Twitter,” he laughed. “A cast member texted me asking if it was real. I was like, ‘I have no idea!’” That soon turned into a joyful reunion. “I was elated. This show has been a part of my life for 20 years. And now I’ve been working on the new episodes for a year and a half.”

According to Martella, the new season picks up right where the original left off. “It’s not a reboot. It’s a continuation — the following summer. The heart and soul of the show are exactly the same.”

“A Voice That Grew Up — But Never Aged”

Voicing Phineas as an adult came with its own unique challenges. But thanks to the groundwork he laid during the original run, Martella slipped right back into character.

“I took voice lessons with opera coaches to extend my vocal range and stamina,” he shared. “That way, I could sing, yell over loud inventions, and stay in character no matter what.”

And now, he’s doing even more. “I play multiple characters in this new season — construction workers, baristas, totally random voices. They trust me more now than they did when I was 16!”

A Soundtrack for Every Genre

Music remains a central part of the series — and Martella is still putting in the work.

“I rehearse a lot before a recording session,” he said. “But even when I think I sound great, our music team hears every flat note. It’s humbling — and hilarious.”

From disco to rap, no genre is off-limits. “I’ve had to do stuff I’ve never done before. They’ll just say, ‘You’re rapping this week,’ and I’m like, ‘Sure, why not!’”

Hints About the New Season

While he couldn’t give away too much, Martella teased what’s to come.

“We’re spending more time with characters who didn’t get full episodes before. Fans are going to love that.”

And yes — there will be plenty of Easter eggs. “We’re super self-referential. Fan-favorite characters like Meep and Donkey Momo may pop up.”

He also confirmed the release strategy: 40 new episodes will roll out starting June 5 on Disney+, with a few episodes dropping weekly instead of all at once.

A Show That Changed Lives — Including His Own

The impact of Phineas and Ferb has extended far beyond the screen. Martella recounted one particularly powerful fan encounter.

“A family came to meet me at a convention. Their son is non-verbal and autistic — but when I spoke to him as Phineas, he responded. He thought he was talking to his favorite character. It was emotional for everyone.”

Moments like that have stayed with him. “That’s when you realize how much this show means to people. It’s more than entertainment — it’s connection.”

Carpe Diem: What Phineas Would Say

As for what fans — both old and new — can expect from Season 5?

“There are more adventures, more music, and more heart,” he said. “We want kids and families to laugh, sing, and live each day to its fullest. Just like Phineas would say — carpe diem.”

With a potential Phineas and Ferb movie and even more seasons still possible, Martella says he’s ready for anything. “I’d do this for the next 50 years if they let me.”
