Sarah Jeffery Reflects on Her Role in Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight on NETFLIX

Actress Sarah Jeffery recently sat down with Pop Culture Unplugged to discuss her role as Dolores in Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight, premiering December 20th on Netflix. The film, based on the true story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—an all-Black female battalion during World War II—celebrates perseverance, sisterhood, and triumph over adversity.

On the Importance of The Six Triple Eight

Sarah described the project as both meaningful and inspiring, calling it an honor to bring such an impactful story to life. “This is a piece of history most people don’t know about,” she said. “To have the opportunity to honor these incredible women is such a gift.”

The actress hopes the film will shine a light on the immense contributions of Black women throughout history. “Black women have done so much for this country, and they’ve long gone without their accolades and recognition. I hope this film opens eyes and inspires people to discover more untold stories like this one.”

Embracing the Role of Dolores

Sarah shared her personal connection to the role of Dolores, a character rooted in confidence and pride. “As a biracial woman, portraying someone who embraces her identity so unapologetically was inspiring,” she noted.

While Dolores represents a culmination of many women’s experiences, Sarah delved into historical research to ensure authenticity. “I watched archival footage, worked with dialect coaches, and immersed myself in the time period. Wearing the restrictive uniforms while performing manual labor helped me better understand what these women endured.”

Collaborating with Tyler Perry and the Cast

Sarah praised Tyler Perry for his visionary direction and trust in the cast. “Tyler is a titan in the industry for a reason. He gave us the freedom to bring our characters to life, but he was always there to guide us when needed.”

She also shared high praise for her co-star Kerry Washington, who leads the cast with grace and generosity. “Kerry is incredible—so kind and giving, both as an actor and a person. She created a space for all of us to bond and truly become a unit. It felt like a real sisterhood on and off-screen.”

Challenges and Rewards

One of the film’s central themes is resilience, a quality Sarah believes is both timely and inspiring. “We’re in a politically challenging time, and this film reminds us of the strength and sacrifices of Black women who’ve done so much for this country,” she said.

The most rewarding part of the experience for Sarah was the camaraderie she built with her co-stars. “We’ve built a sisterhood that goes beyond the film. We even have a group chat that’s always buzzing!”

However, the role wasn’t without challenges. “The accent was something I hadn’t done before, and nailing the military drills with our advisor and choreographer Debbie Allen was a lot of work, but it was so rewarding.”

What’s Next for Sarah Jeffery

After The Six Triple Eight, Sarah plans to enjoy the holidays with family. She also teased her next project, Tassie, directed by Mark Webber and co-starring Mena Massoud. “It’s a film I’m deeply passionate about, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.”

Final Thoughts

Sarah hopes audiences will walk away with a deeper appreciation for the contributions of Black women and the courage of everyday heroes. “This film shows that anyone can be a hero. It’s a story of resilience and unity, and I think it will resonate with so many people.”
