Olivia Rose Keegan Talks Playing Sara in Scary Movie, Cindy Campbell’s Daughter & Horror Comedy
Olivia Rose Keegan joins Elias to discuss stepping into the iconic Scary Movie franchise, working with comedy legends, and bringing Sara’s chaotic, emotional journey to life.
Olivia Rose Keegan joined Pop Culture Unplugged with Elias to talk about her role as Sara in Scary Movie. During the conversation, Olivia opened up about joining the beloved horror-comedy franchise, discovering Sara’s connection to Cindy Campbell, and learning from some of the biggest names in comedy.
“I’m pretty frickin’ stoked.”
Discovering Sara’s Connection to Cindy Campbell
One of the biggest surprises for Olivia was learning that Sara was Cindy Campbell’s daughter. At first, she did not know that detail during the audition process, so she avoided leaning too heavily into Anna Faris’ style.
Once she found out who Sara really was, Olivia said she was able to embrace that connection and let her admiration for Anna Faris shine through in the performance.
“Then I got to let it rip and let all my love for her sort of shine through.”
Honoring Anna Faris and the Legacy of Scary Movie
Olivia shared that Anna Faris has always been one of her comedic inspirations. After revisiting the earlier Scary Movie films, she realized that what makes the comedy work is how sincere the performances are.
For Olivia, the key was not trying to be funny. Instead, she focused on playing the fear, confusion, and chaos honestly.
“You can’t be in on the joke. You can’t try to be funny.”

Balancing Horror and Comedy
While Scary Movie is packed with parody, Olivia explained that the comedy still has to come from a grounded place. Even in the biggest and most outrageous moments, the characters have to believe what is happening to them.
“If it’s not grounded somewhere, it’s not going to work.”
That approach helped Olivia shape Sara as more than just a character reacting to the madness around her. Sara has heart, emotion, and a complicated relationship with her mother that adds another layer to the story.
Sara’s Journey in the Film
Without giving too much away, Olivia described Sara as someone with good intentions who feels deeply but does not always know how to handle everything going on in her life.
“She has a lot of good intention and a lot of heart, and she feels a lot.”
