“It’s been unbelievable. It’s still so surreal that you’re a part of this.”

Stepping Into Ba Sing Se

Season 2 brings viewers deeper into Ba Sing Se and the Earth Kingdom, a world full of secrets, hierarchy, and complicated loyalties. Gabriel explained that Lieutenant Khettry is caught between his duty as a defender of the outer wall and the growing conflict around him.

Fans have especially responded to Khettry’s undercover moments, including the alley sequence and the reveal of his second look. Gabriel said viewers were surprised by the way Khettry used earthbending and how the character’s conflict slowly unfolded.

“People seeing the conflict of that and him deciding to go undercover... people have been really loving that.”

Bringing Lieutenant Khettry To Life

Gabriel shared that he was already a fan of the original animated series before joining the Netflix adaptation. After reading for several roles during the first season, he eventually landed Lieutenant Khettry, calling the opportunity an immersive and exciting experience.

He praised the creative team behind the series, noting how much care goes into the writing, world-building, and execution of a franchise with such a passionate fanbase. For Gabriel, being part of this universe meant understanding the stakes and respecting the world fans have loved for years.

Watch The Interview

Watch Gabriel Prevost-Takahashi talk with Elias about Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2, Lieutenant Khettry, Ba Sing Se, stunt training, behind-the-scenes moments, and more.

Khettry’s Defining Moment

Gabriel pointed to Khettry speaking out against Long Feng as one of the character’s most important moments. In a strict hierarchy like Ba Sing Se, that kind of defiance comes with a serious cost.

“That moment where he lashes out, I think, is obviously super unheard of in this hierarchy system.”

A Darker, More Elevated Season

Gabriel described Season 2 as more serious and elevated, with tighter scripts, richer subtext, and bigger emotional stakes. As the young cast grew, the tone of the show naturally matured as well, giving the season a deeper and more intense feeling.

For Khettry, that meant playing someone who exists inside a system built on order, secrecy, and power. Gabriel leaned into that tension, making sure the character felt grounded in the world while still carrying his own inner conflict.

Action, Stunts & Training

Season 2 features bigger battle sequences, and Gabriel trained for the physical side of the role. While safety precautions meant his stunt double handled the final stunt work, Gabriel praised the stunt team for the energy and scale they brought to the series.

He also gave a special shoutout to his stunt double, Alex Lau, and spoke about how exciting it was to watch the action sequences unfold from the director’s tent. Gabriel said he has also been getting more into martial arts personally, including Muay Thai, and would love to explore kung fu as well.

Working With The Cast

Gabriel spoke highly of the cast, including Shinhan, Daniel Dae Kim, Gordon Cormier, Dallas Liu, Ian Ousley, Ramona Young, Miya Cech, and the rest of the ensemble. As both an actor and a fan of film, he said he loved watching strong performances happen on set.

“I just love to watch performance.”

Favorite Costume & A Piece Of Set He Took Home

Gabriel loved Khettry’s armor, but he also had a special appreciation for the character’s undercover robe, describing it as stealthy and made from incredible fabric. The hidden figure look gave Khettry a second visual identity that fans quickly noticed.

As for what he kept from set, Gabriel revealed that he brought home a snake plant from the production. The plant now sits in his living room as a daily reminder of his time in Ba Sing Se.

“Every day I wake up, I see something from Ba Sing Se.”

Behind-The-Scenes Fun

Gabriel also shared a funny prank story from set. He revealed that someone put hot sauce on the tip of his squeeze Gatorade bottle, causing the first sip to hit him with a surprise blast of heat.

Fun Fact

Gabriel said the prank happened more than once and joked that Gordon Cormier or his stunt double Alex Lau may have been involved.

What’s Next?

Outside of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Gabriel discussed several upcoming projects, including writing work through his production company and a Japanese drifting film set in the Pacific Northwest. He also talked about his work connected to Forza Horizon 6 and his love for gaming.

Whether he is acting, writing, gaming, or building new stories behind the scenes, Gabriel is clearly keeping busy and continuing to expand his creative path.
