Diesel La Torraca on Growing With Austin in Ginny & Georgia Season 3: "He's Still a Bit of a Mess"

With Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia premiering June 5 on Netflix, Diesel La Torraca sat down with Pop Culture Unplugged to talk about returning as Austin, growing up alongside the character, and diving deeper into Austin’s emotional arc after a traumatic Season 2.

A Long-Awaited Return

"It's been such a long hiatus," Diesel shared about the break between seasons. “We are very, very excited for this release.”

Season 2 ended with several explosive moments, including Austin shooting his father to protect Georgia and witnessing her being arrested at her wedding. These dramatic events left fans wondering how the youngest member of the Miller family would cope in the new season.

Growing With Austin

Diesel opened up about what it’s like aging alongside Austin, even though the character hasn’t changed much in age. “I’ve really grown with him, even though he hasn’t aged a bit,” he said. “I'm much older than him, so I have more experience to bring to the character now. Even though I barely remember what it was like to be nine.”

Processing Trauma in Season 3

One of the standout moments from Season 2 was Austin’s decision to shoot Gil. Diesel recalled preparing for that emotional scene: “I just get into a more somber mood that day. I think about thoughts that will get me to that emotional space.”

In Season 3, Austin is still processing the trauma of that night, and it deeply affects his behavior and relationships—especially his bond with Georgia. “That was a big turning point for how he sees his mom,” Diesel explained.

Austin and Georgia’s Evolving Dynamic

“Season 3 finds Austin a little bit traumatized,” Diesel revealed. “That night really plays a big role in his actions this season.” He also noted a shift in trust between Austin and the rest of his family. “He’s lost trust in Georgia—and maybe a little in Ginny too. He’s wondering who knew what, and when.”

The Bond with Ginny

Despite the fractured family dynamics, Diesel says Austin and Ginny become a stronger unit. “They don’t have their mom, and they’re the only people who really understand what each other are going through.”

A Season of Highs and Lows

According to Diesel, Season 3 manages to strike a delicate balance between Ginny & Georgia’s trademark humor and its darker themes. “It’s ten times more thrilling and ten times funnier,” he said, while teasing that Episode 5 stands out as one he’s especially excited for fans to see.

Looking Ahead to Season 4

While Season 3 is just about to premiere, Diesel already has thoughts about Austin’s future. “I’d love to see Austin in therapy,” he laughed. “He’s been through a lot.”

As for whether Diesel would be friends with Austin in real life? “I pity him a little bit,” he joked. “He has trouble making friends, and they’ve moved around a lot.”

A Message From Austin

If Austin could send a message to fans, Diesel says it would be simple: “He’d tell them he loves his mom and would do anything for her.”

Watch Diesel La Torraca as Austin when Ginny & Georgia Season 3 premieres June 5 on Netflix. Season 4 is already confirmed—so there’s plenty more story to come.
