Becca Breitfeller Talks Chad Powers, Audition Secrets, and Embracing the Mean Girl Role

Hulu’s Chad Powers has quickly become one of the most talked-about comedy series of the year — blending football, identity, and outrageous humor in a way only Eli Manning could dream up. One of the standout new faces in the show is Becca Breitfeller, who plays Sasha, the fiery and unapologetically bold head cheerleader who seems to thrive on chaos.

Becca joined Pop Culture Unplugged with Elias to talk about her journey to the show, what drew her to Sasha, and how she’s embracing every moment of the Chad Powers experience.

Discovering Acting During the Pandemic

While Becca has been captivating audiences on-screen, her journey into acting actually began in an unexpected way.

“I originally went to school for film and communications at Pace University,” she shared. “I wanted to be behind the camera — not in front. But during the pandemic, I took my first acting class from my parents’ house in Orlando, and I just fell in love with it. I knew this was what I wanted to do forever.”

That leap of faith opened doors she never imagined, leading to short films, indie projects, and eventually, her big moment with Hulu.

Landing the Role of Sasha in Chad Powers

When Becca auditioned for Chad Powers, it wasn’t her first try.

“I had auditioned a few times for different roles — like an athletic trainer — and hadn’t heard back,” she explained. “Then Sasha came in, and I just knew I had to play her. I went against my own advice of ‘letting go’ and held on tight. Thankfully, it worked out!”

Her persistence paid off, and Sasha became one of the breakout supporting characters of the show’s freshman season — loud, unpredictable, and endlessly entertaining.

Embracing the “Mean Girl” Energy

Portraying a character as blunt and over-the-top as Sasha was a challenge that Becca fully embraced.

“She’s just unfiltered,” Becca laughed. “She says whatever’s on her mind, no matter how wild or inappropriate. At first, I was nervous about playing a ‘mean girl,’ but I quickly realized those roles are actually the most fun. It’s like therapy — you get to yell, be ridiculous, and just go for it.”

Behind all the chaos, Becca found an important lesson in empathy.

“Even with characters people might not love, you have to find what makes them human. That’s what keeps it grounded.”

Building Chemistry and Chaos

Working alongside Frankie Rodriguez, who plays her on-screen nemesis Danny, was one of Becca’s favorite parts of filming.

“Frankie is amazing — so funny and kind,” she said. “Our directors encouraged me to really go at him in scenes, and it made the back-and-forth so much fun. As soon as they yelled ‘cut,’ we’d just start laughing.”

The result is a dynamic that fans can’t get enough of — a perfect mix of rivalry and comic energy.

What’s Next for Becca

As Chad Powers continues to score big on Hulu, Becca is soaking it all in while preparing for her next big chapter.

“I’m gearing up for a move to LA and just taking things one step at a time,” she said. “This show has been such a blast, and I’d love to explore more of Sasha if we get a Season 2.”

Until then, Becca is embracing the same motto that has guided her since day one — let go, have fun, and keep creating.
